New Hillsborough Mayor, Deputy Mayor Appointed For 2021
Republicans Janine Erickson and Doug Tomson were also sworn in as committee members during the reorganization meeting on Monday night.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Shawn Lipani was appointed as Mayor and Frank DelCore as Deputy Mayor of Hillsborough for 2021 during the annual Reorganization meeting on Monday night.
During the meeting, Republicans Doug Tomson and Janine Erickson were also sworn in as Township Committee Members by Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli. Tomson won his re-election for his fourth term and Erickson won her first election in November.
Lipani, a life-long Hillsborough resident. was unanimously appointed as mayor for 2021. Tomson had previously served as mayor in 2020.

"I assume this office humbly and with theacceptance of its responsibility and requirements to the residents of Hillsborough," said Lipani at the meeting.
Since joining the Committee, Lipani has been liaison to many Boards and Commissions including the Board of Adjustment, Board of Fire Commissioners, Credit Card Advisory, Economic and Business Development, Ethical Standards Board, Planning Board, and Veterans Committee. Previously, he has served as Chairman of the Planning Board, Economic and Business Development Commission and the Board of Adjustment.

During his speech, Lipani outlined his goals for the coming year.
"So as we come out of 2020, 2021 still requires continued vigilance for all. We will look to continue some work unfinished last year. Our opiod task force, the senior and wellness study, the Route 206 bypass due to finish early 2021, the roadpaving program and continue to develop and promote the Hillsborough Facebook page," said Lipani.
Going forward, Lipani said he will work with the state, county and federal agencies to acquire any aid and or grants from past applicationsand future programs.
Additionally, Lipani is asking the engineering and public works department to create a plan and identify hundreds of miles of Hillsborough roads and their condition and expended timeline of need.
"This blueprint will be a tool to plan for long term infrastruture care and cost," said Lipani.
The township will also work on planning its 250th anniversary this summer.
DelCore was also unanimously selected to serve as Deputy Mayor for 2021.
"I am looking forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on the TownshipCommittee and am honored to serve as Deputy Mayor for Hillsborough," said DelCore.
DelCore first joined the Township Committee in 2008, served as Mayor in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019 and as Deputy Mayor in 2008. DelCore has also served as liaison to the Capital Planning Committee, Recreation Commission, Police, Rescue Squad, Emergency Management, Economic & Business Development Commission, Municipal Alliance, Historic Preservation, Planning Board, Sign Review Committee and Sustainable Hillsborough Commission.
The meeting concluded with the appointments to various Township Boards and Commissions for the year 2021.
