HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Olivia Holmes resigned from the Hillsborough Township Committee last week. Holmes said she has been battling a "really bad case" of COVID-19 for over a month.

"I had been working very hard to get great liaison positions and have been really working hard with all of my colleagues. And then I got very sick, I was reading my emails and getting overwhelmed and I didn't know how long it will last. I couldn't even go to any meetings in January," said Holmes.

Holmes said she has been battling the coronavirus for over a month and it still is affecting her.

"It's very heartbreaking," said Holmes.

Holmes served as the only Democrat on the township committee and had plans to run for re-election as her term ends in November.

"I was sick with a fatigue I have never experienced in my life," said Holmes. "I felt I couldn't do my responsibilities and I was planning on running on for re-election but I am sick. I don't know. Maybe I jumped the gun? But it was killing me that I was not able to work on the things I had been wanting to do."

Holmes is considering, if she feels healthy enough in April, to run for election again.

Currently, it is up to the Hillsborough Democratic Committee to find a replacement to fill her seat to finish out her term through November.
