Retired Hillsborough Football Coach Opens Dawgfather Hot Dogs

Peter Passe, a recently retired Hillsborough Middle School Teacher, will debut the first Snap Dog location in the New Jersey on Saturday.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Recently retired Hillsborough Middle School Teacher and football coach, Peter Passe, is opening up his very own hot dog stand at the township’s athletic fields beginning Saturday.

Passe had spent 15 years teaching science in the middle school, 43 years coaching football and even co-founded the Hillsborough JR Raiders and the Junior Skyland Football Conference. During his time as coach, he mentored former NFL players Ricky Proehl of the Carolina Panthers and Shawn Mayer of the New England Patriots, both of whom played in the Super Bowl.

Now Passe is turning to hot dogs for the next stage of his life. Passe did some research and came across Snap Dog, which is made from 100% premium beef and cooked the old-fashioned way, in a real smokehouse.

“I kept coming back to Snap Dog and know they have a quality product,” Passe told Patch.

Passe met with Snap Dog and is now debuting the first Snap Dog dealer in New Jersey, right here in Hillsborough.

Giving himself a unique name, Passe landed on “Dawgfather Hot Dogs” for his stand. He even decks himself out in a tuxedo T-shirt and shoes to go with the theme.

Tapping into his coaching experience, Passe thought starting at the Hillsborough recreation fields was the perfect location to launch his stand.

“A lot of recreational sites don’t have anything as far as any type of refreshments whatsoever,” Passe said. “I heard comments from parents about wanting to buy a cup of coffee at a soccer game. So I figured this way they can get coffee and a quality lunch and the kids can grab a quick lunch after their soccer, baseball or football games.”

Dawgfather will offer hotdogs with a variety of different toppings and also red hot beef sausage, which is basically a larger hotdog that is spicy.

Dawgfather Hot Dogs will be located on Saturdays at the recreational fields at The Municipal Complex, 379 South Branch Road in Hillsborough from 9 a.m. to noon and will be available for corporate events and birthday parties.

Passe will be donating a portion of the proceeds of each Snap Dog to “The Salute To Veterans Breakfast” which will take place on May 27 just prior to the Hillsborough Memorial Day Parade. Snap Dog Inc. will match Coach Passe’s donation.
