HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — More than two years since Hurricane Ida damaged a bridge over Rock Brook that connects Hillsborough and Montgomery Townships, the bridge is finally open.

The Zion-Wertsville Bridge (also known as the Rock Brook Bridge) between Montgomery and Hillsborough is now open for regular traffic, announced Somerset County Public Safety on Friday.

"The reconstruction of the stone arch bridge is now substantially complete and the segment of Zion-Wertsville Road was reopened to traffic on Friday, Sept. 22 at 2:15 p.m. Remaining items of work will be done off the roadway or with minimal, intermittent impact to traffic," according to Somerset County.

Known as the "Rock Brook Bridge", the Zion-Wertsville Road Bridge, located about 300 feet east of the intersection of Hollow Road and Zion-Wertsville Road/Long Hill Road, closed to vehicular and pedestrian/bicycle traffic on Aug. 9, 2021, for construction repairs.

However, flash flooding from Tropical Storm Ida damaged the three-span bridge, effectively halting further rehabilitation work.
