Scam Alert: Caller Pretends To Be Somerset County Sheriff Deputy
Scammers are continuing to call residents pretending to be from the Somerset County Sheriff's Department with a warrant for their arrest.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Scammers are continuing to call residents claiming to be Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Deputies with a warrant for their arrest.
The scam was announced by the sheriff's office in December but the "same notorious scammers" have now changed their phone number to 908-223-8954. (See Related: Somerset County Residents Targeted In Phone Scam)
They are still claiming to be "Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Deputies" and calling residents saying that they have an active warrant for not reporting for jury duty, according to the sheriff's office.

The scammers then request that residents purchase Money Cards or vouchers from kiosks or over the counter and provide them with the account numbers from the money cards or vouchers.
"Once again the Somerset County Sheriff’s OFFICE does not have DEPUTIES, our front line personnel are SHERIFF’s OFFICERS and do not satisfy warrants over the telephone with payments made by purchasing a voucher or money card," the sheriff's office announced.

Residents who receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Somerset County Sheriff Office about a warrant and feel it could be a scam, they should tell the caller that they will call them back on the main number for the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office (908-231-7140). If they give resistance about calling them back on the main number it is a scam.
