Schools Close In Hillsborough Due To Continued Power Outage

Strong winds have toppled utility poles causing outages throughout Hillsborough.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — All Hillsborough Township Schools are closed Friday due to continued downed power lines and power outages throughout the town, the district announced.

All after-school events are canceled.

Strong winds caused utility poles to topple and close Mountainview Road between East Mountain Road and Pleasantview Road along with Amwell Road between Zion Road and Wertsville Road both due to downed wires, Hillsborough Police announced early Friday morning.

Amwell Road has since reopened as of 11 a.m.

PSE&G and JCP&L are both reporting outages for some Hillsborough residents. On Friday morning, there was more than 1,000 residents with out power. As of 11 a.m. it has dropped to about 25.

Here is a look at the weather forecast ahead:

Friday: A chance of showers, mainly before 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a temperature falling to around 39 by 5 p.m. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 21. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening.

Saturday: A slight chance of rain and snow showers before noon, then a chance of rain showers between noon and 4 p.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow showers after 4 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 44. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 23.
