SCVTHS Present a Video About the Importance of PPE

Saanvi, Shreya, and Kushi began the Specialized Health and Safety project by deciding to spread awareness on health and safety concerns to their peers at SCVTHS. On January 12, 2026, the Committee discussed safety topics, deciding that personal protective equipment (PPE) was the most relevant to their classmates. The committee decided that creating an informative video presentation would be the most pertinent method of teaching SCVTHS students about necessary PPE and why it must be used in laboratory environments.

Interest in the PPE-focused Specialized Health and Safety project was generated within the chapter as a result of members’ discussions about working in laboratories and their nervousness about creating potential accidents. To avoid incidents in laboratory settings, chapter members demonstrated interest in learning how to improve their personal lab safety. The committee chose to focus its project on PPE because it identified a need in its chapter to learn about how to prevent lab incidents and increase lab safety for all members.

To plan the project, the Committee wrote and finalized a script to follow for the informational video, outlining various forms of PPE. The video was filmed by the Committee and fellow chapter members on March 1, 2026, and the Committee elected to present it to members of shop teacher Ms. Patil’s class on March 11, 2026. After viewing the informational video, students reported that they felt more educated on essential PPE, including gloves, lab coats, lab goggles, and more items. The majority of students confirmed that they felt more confident in completing laboratory procedures after viewing the video, aligning with the Committee’s goals for the project.
