Severe Storm Cancels Hillsborough After School Activities, Board Meeting

A tornado watch and wind advisory have been issued for Hillsborough on Monday.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A severe storm headed to the Hillsborough area has caused closures at the school district.

All Hillsborough Township school district activities scheduled after 2:30 p.m. on Monday are canceled.

This cancellation includes Monday night's Board of Education Meeting, which will be rescheduled. A new date for the meeting wil be shared by the district at a later time.

Additionally, the High School College Fair (6 to 8 p.m.) and Catholic Charities afterschool programs will still proceed as originally scheduled.

A Tornado Watch is in effect on Monday from 11:30 a.m. through 7 p.m. on Monday.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect from 2 p.m. on Monday through 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

The Somerset County area is expected to see winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50mph.

On Monday, rain and possibly a thunderstorm are expected.

More rain and thunderstorms are expected before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of rain between 2 and 3 a.m.

Here is a look at the forecast for the rest of the week:

Tuesday: Scattered flurries before 3 p.m., then scattered flurries after 4 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Breezy, with a west wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Tuesday Night: Scattered flurries between 7 and 8 p.m. Mostly clear, with a low around 23. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 41. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 49.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 58.
