'Slurry Seal' Treatment To Close Hillsborough Roadway

Somerset County is installing a pavement coating on Millstone River Road beginning Thursday night(weather dependent).

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Millstone River Road in Hillsborough will close nightly beginning Thursday for Somerset County to apply a "slurry seal."

The work was initially set to begin Wednesday but got pushed to Thursday due to rain. This work is weather dependent.

This work will be performed during the working hours of 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. with the road being opened to traffic each morning.

The road will be closed to thru traffic and a detour will be in effect during the slurry seal operations only.

After the work is completed, the final thermoplastic striping will take place about two weeks after construction. This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather.

The slurry seal coating is roughly the height of a quarter on its side, but extends the usable life of a roadway by as much as five years at a significantly lower cost than milling and paving, according to Somerset County. Read More: Somerset County Roads To Be Improved With 'Slurry Seal'
