Somerset County Man Pleads Guilty To Severely Injuring 1-Month-Old Infant

The man's one-month-old daughter was found to have a contusion to her face, head trauma, and a fractured right femoral shaft: Prosecutor.

FRANKLIN, NJ — A Somerset County man who severely injured a one-month-old baby while in his care in 2014 has pleaded guilty to second-degree aggravated assault on Friday, according to nj.com.

William Figueroa, 22, of Franklin Township was arrested on Dec. 4, 2014 after his one-month-old daughter was found to have a contusion to her face, head trauma, and a fractured right femoral shaft.

Under the plea agreement, Figueroa will be sentenced to five years in state prison and must serve two years before being eligible for parole. He can have no contact with the baby or her mother and will lose all parental rights, according to nj.com.

The 9-1-1 call came in around 8:33 a.m. on Dec. 4, 2014 where the injured infant was found and transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Figueroa told police his daughter fell off the bed began to cry uncontrollably. He said he became frustrated and angry when he wouldn't get her to stop. He then said he picked her up and cradled her and squeezed her very tightly, when she fell out of his arms onto the hardwood floor, according to the affidavit filed in court, according to nj.com.

Figueroa then went across the street to a neighbor's home after 40 minutes and called 9-1-1.
