Spring Cleaning is Almost Here!

"It is that time of year for the Annual Clean Up," announced Committeewoman and Liaison to the Department of Public Works Gloria McCauley at Tuesday night's Township Committee meeting.

Coupons and Senior Citizen stickers for the township's Annual Clean up are now available at the Hillsborough Department of Public Works (DPW) office, located at 21 East Mountain Road, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Coupons, required for drop off at the Auten Road facility, will be issued for the first and last Saturdays of the Month beginning in May through October., This program is for Hillsborough Residents only and proof of residency is required.

The drop off site is open rain or shine. 

The purpose of the clean-up program is to allow residents the opportunity to dispose of old furniture, toys, rugs, appliances, bicycles, yard debris, etc. Please note electronics are not accepted. Residents can recycle e-waste, free of charge, at Newtech Recycling Inc., located at 600A Apgar Drive, Somerset, NJ. 08873, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Remaining Saturday drop-off dates in 2013 are April 6, May 4, June 1, July 13, Aug. 3, Sept. 7, Oct. 5, Nov. 2 and Dec. 7. For more information about Newtech Recycling Inc., call (732) 564-3110 or visit www.newtechrecycling.com.

Curbside pickup, for senior citizens (65+ years) and the disabled, will begin the last week of April. Curbside stickers, issued by DPW to residents qualifying for the program, must be present on materials to be picked up. 

The schedule of when and where curbside pickup will take place, and regulations regarding both curbside pickup and the Auten Road drop-off program, is available on the Department of Public Work's page on the township's website, or by calling the DPW at 369-3950. 

"It is a challenge to offer the clean up program as a courtesy to our residents in a town as large as Hillsborough while still managing the costs of doing so," McCauley said. "We are able to continue to offer this free Service to our residents because of DPW'S diligent management of the program. Once again, we are grateful to them for their continued efforts."
