Somerset County Student Who Insulted Vegetarian Classmate Can Be Punished

The Montgomery sixth grader statements of "vegetarians are idiots" and "it's not good to not eat meat" were ruled as bullying.

Montgomery, NJ - A Montgomery sixth grader who insulted a vegetarian classmate may be punished by the school district, the NJ Commissioner of Education ruled.

The sixth grader who said "vegetarians are idiots" and also told the vegetarian classmate “it’s not good to not eat meat” and that “he should eat meat because he’d be smarter and have bigger brains” is being ruled as bullying by a state administrative law judge, according to app.com.

As a result of the ruling, the NJ Commissioner of Education said the Montgomery School District can give detention to the student, according to app.com.

The case was opened in Oct. 30, 2014, when the two 11-year-old sixth-graders were having lunch in the cafeteria of Montgomery’s Lower Middle School, according to app.com.

The school district spent a total of $7,763 in legal fees on the case.
