Taking a Peep Toward Easter
Okay Hillsborough, settle an ages-long debate for your editor's family.

Valentines Day past, which means only one thing.
Easter candy is already on the shelves, including the ubiquitous marshmallow Peep.
The packages of yellow, blue, pink, purple and white birds and bunnies, along with the necessary Cadbury eggs, used to signal the start of the spring season—though the Peeps have since diversified (or bled) into other occasions.

Some argue the sugar-covered marshmallow birds are tasteless, textureless routes to a quick sugar high and an even quicker sugar crash. Others would prefer to put the candy through rounds of scientific tests.
Or, if you’re inclined to eat the things, there’s the question of whether to eat them fresh out of the package, or to let them dry out first, so they get hard, crunchy and apparently good. Your editor has never understood the latter option. But her sister and mother insist stale and crunchy is the only way to eat Peeps
