Hillsborough fire and police had lights and sirens blaring to welcome home the Raiders football team and honor them for a historic season.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The undefeated Hillsborough High School Raiders took home the crown as Group 5 Central South Jersey State Champions following a 13-0 season.

"This is a major, major accomplishment and we need to share in this success as a community, as a school. This is just a great, great accomplishment," said Hillsborough Board of Education member John Oliver.

The Raiders competed in the NJISAA Public Regional Championships on Saturday, Dec. 4 with a 28-7 win over Kingsway at Rutgers University Stadium.

"Congratulations on the entire team for this historic win for the Raiders. The championship made this year's team the most winning in Raider football history, said Hillsborough School Superintendent Dr. Lisa Antunes.

Throughout their season, the undefeated Raiders team outscored their opponents by more than 300 points, said Antunes.

A special shout-out was also given to Raiders Head Coach Kevin Carty. This game was his 100th career victory becoming the New Jersey's 46th coach to have reached that milestone, said Antunes.

After their win, Hillsborough fire and police officials came out to give the team a welcoming parade back home.

Oliver also hinted that the township has other plans in the works to honor the football team and staff.

"This isn't over. We will continue to share in their success and really pay honor to these kids who did a great job, so more to come," said Oliver.
