Vice Principal Announced For Hillsborough Middle School

Debra Porowski, Hillsborough Middle School math teacher and Math Content Specialist, has been appointed by the Board of Education as the new vice principal of Hillsborough Middle School (HMS) effective September 1, 2015.

Porowski has spent her entire 22-year teaching career at Hillsborough Middle School. She began as a math teacher in Hillsborough Township Public Schools upon graduation from The College of New Jersey in 1993 and has taught basic skills through honors math to many sixth through eighth grade students. In addition to her classroom duties, for the past 14 years she has also served as the Math Content Specialist at HMS. In 2004, she was honored as Hillsborough Middle School’s Teacher of the Year.

During the 2012-2013 school year, one of Porowski’s Algebra I classes was chosen as a pilot classroom for the district’s 1:1 Technology Initiative which was brought to fruition this school year with every student in grades 5-12 being provided a district issued Chromebook.

Porowski is a long-time employee as well as dedicated district parent. In addition to working at HMS, Porowski is also a proud resident of Hillsborough Township. She has lived in town for the last 17 years and her two sons currently attend Hillsborough schools. She is proud to be an involved and active member of the Hillsborough community.

“I am both proud and honored to be chosen as the next Vice Principal of the Hillsborough Middle School. I love my school, the students, and the teachers. I am excited to work with the staff in this new role,” stated Debra Porowski. “I enjoy coming to work everyday, and I want every teacher and every student to walk the hallways of HMS feeling like an important and valued member of our community, and to feel excited about the learning that is happening here every day.”

Porowski holds a Master of Educational Leadership from Seton Hall University, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marygrove College in Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science from the College of New Jersey.

“Based on Debra’s dedication to the middle school community, she was a natural choice for the vice principal position, stated Dr. Jorden Schiff, Superintendent of Schools. “As a teacher, Debra provides constant encouragement and support to students, parents and colleagues alike. I am sure she will continue doing so in her new administrative role.”
