Tax Impact Of $2M Referendum Explained In New Video

The Hillsborough Board of Education is proposing $2 million in improvements. The referendum is March 8.

Hillsborough, NJ -- The Hillsborough Board of Education is proposing $2 million in improvements at Hillsborough High School and Hillsborough Middle Schools.

The $2,034,509 imrpovements will come before a vote on March 8 where the public can either pass or deny the referendum.

Passage of the referendum will assure 40 percent will be covered by State of New Jersey approved funding with no property tax increase, the board says.

The rest of the amount, 60 percent, will be paid by the district from the CAP reserve.

Facility improvements include replacing the artificial turf at the high school which will cost $608,048.

“The artificial turf field at Hillsborough High School is nearing the end of its useful life,” the board posted. “A new artificial turf will continue to keep maintenance costs low while allowing for continuous daily use.”

Another improvement is repairing the middle school parking lot including paving, drainage upgrades, and traffic control improvements. This will cost a total of $1,426,461

“These changes will prevent ponding that freezes during inclement weather as well as allow middle school students to be picked-up and dropped off at the middle school rather than at neighboring Triangle Elementary School,” the board posted.

A referendum vote will be held on March 8, 2016 to support necessary facilities improvements at Hillsborough High School and Hillsborough Middle Schools.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
