The watch runs until 7:45 p.m. Sunday night. Rain was to be heavy at times through 5 p.m. Sunday and cause poor drainage and street flooding by mid-afternoon. Small streams without solid ice cover will rise sharply and maybe overflow their banks by late this afternoon or evening, the NWS said.

“Do not drive your vehicle into areas were the water covers the roadway,” the NWS said. ”The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.”

Prior soil conditions indicate Middlesex county was particularly vulnerable to poor drainage and possible small stream flooding on Sunday.

It looks like Ocean County will be spared the ice-slicked roads in North Jersey, the cause of many accidents.

Expect a high of 48 degrees today, with winds from the south at 13 to 15 miles an hour, the NWS says.
