14 Busted, Cop Punched In Face At Hoboken SantaCon: Police

One person was arrested for sex assault and a police officer was punched in the face in what became a wild New Jersey SantaCon this weekend.

Fourteen people were arrested and a police officer was punched in the face in what became a wild New Jersey SantaCon this weekend, according to police.

Forty-six tickets were issued, 33 ordinances were violated and, overall, four police officers were hurt, according to Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante. "And a Partridge in a Pear Tree," he tweeted.

Four officers needed medical treatment, with one suffering a dislocated thumb and another who was punched in the jaw. Two others had to be "decontaminated" after "getting a lot of blood on them from combatants at a fight," the chief said.

There was one sexual assault arrest reported, he said.

Hoboken police responded to 429 calls for service, up from 282 during the same period at the 2017 SantaCon. Thirty-three summonses issued for drinking and urinating in public.

Those arrested included:

  • A 22-year-old woman from Clifton who was arrested for DWI after a crash on 8th and Sinatra Drive
  • A 45-year-old man arrested for simple assault
  • A 25-year-old man from Margate, Fla. who was arrested at 215 Washington St. for aggravated assault and resisting arrest
  • A 30-year-old man from Wayne charged with criminal sexual contact at 215 Washington St.
  • A 22-year-old man from Stockholm charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after "starting a problem" on Newark and Hudson streets, and then leading police on a foot pursuit up River Street to 3rd.
  • A 21-year-old woman from Oakhurst for possession of marijuana
