18 Pets From NJ Appear On 'Jersey Dog' Lottery Tickets This Week: See Who

HOBOKEN, NJ — "Jersey," a dog owned by Julia Paster of Belle Mead, displayed a Jersey attitude at a press conference in a Hoboken park last week, refusing to walk onstage until someone picked him up.

The pooch was one of 18 pets from around the state who were chosen by public vote to appear on "Jersey Dog" lottery tickets starting this Monday.

The scratch-offs, which cost $5 each, display pictures of the winning pets.

Players first scratch off four pictures of dogs on top of the ticket, then 15 on the bottom. If a top dog matches any of those on the bottom, the player can win prize amounts up to $200,000.

The dogs arrived at a press conference in Hoboken's Columbus Park on Wednesday morning to help NJ Lottery officials announce the contest.

Some of them had been through a lot to get there. Trapper, a basset hound from Egg Harbor City, was shot in Mississippi before he was rescued and brought to the Garden State, his owner said.

The tickets are meant to feature "various dog breeds, sizes, and temperaments that embody the unwavering attitude, spirit, and irresistible charm of the Garden State," said the NJ Lottery in a statement.

"Seeing these real Jersey dogs recognized in person and celebrating them in a fun way on scratch-offs makes this ticket very special," said NJ Lottery Executive Director Jim Carey.
