2 Hoboken Water Main Breaks; Hundreds Of Buildings Affected

The breaks in Hoboken also affected bus service on Willow Avenue. Suez Water responded to the scene.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A pair of water main breaks took place in Hoboken on Thursday morning. Suez Water was on the scene, city officials said.

Hoboken officials issued a social media advisory about the breaks, which hampered the morning rush hour in the city:

“Please be advised: there are two water main breaks along Willow Ave at 2nd and 7th Streets. @SUEZwaterNJ is on the scene. Currently there is no bus service on Willow, south of 11th street — that bus line is running on along Washington St.”

Suez Water provided information about the breaks:

“SUEZ is onsite responding to two water main breaks in Hoboken. The first is on Willow Avenue between Third and Second Streets, affecting approximately 226 buildings. The street is closed to all traffic between Third and Second. All residents on Willow Avenue have water service at this time. The second is on Willow Terrace between Clinton Avenue and Willow Avenue, and is closed to traffic. This break affects 13 buildings and all residents on Willow Terrace have water service at this time.”

The company added:

“SUEZ appreciates your patience as we work as quickly and safely as possible to complete these repairs, and will remain onsite until repairs are complete.”

Hoboken city officials provided the following update on Thursday afternoon:

"Water service has been restored on Willow Ave Between 2nd and 3rd. Due to continued work on the 7th and Willow water main, buses will still be rerouted to Wash until further notice. Thank you for your patience with the work being conducted by SUEZ Water North Jersey."

City officials added soon afterward:

"After repair of two broken water mains, Willow Avenue is now open and the NJ Transit Bus Routes have been restored to their normal schedules. Thank you for your patience. Please be aware that work is still being completed on parts of 7th Street near where the water main broke, but this work is no longer impacting traffic on Willow Ave."
