All Registrants For Hoboken Schools’ Pre-K3 Get Spots: Officials
Despite a "high demand" for the Hoboken Public School District's pre-k3 program, 540 registrants will receive a seat for September.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Despite a “high demand” for the Hoboken Public School District’s pre-k3 program in 2019-2020, a whopping 540 registrants will receive a seat for September and will not be part of a lottery process, administrators reported earlier this week.
On Wednesday, the Hoboken Public School District announced that its scheduled registration period for the pre-k3 program – which concluded on April 5 – ended with happy news for hundreds of parents.
“Based on the number of children who registered during the allotted time period between April 1 and April 5, we are happy to report that all 540, PK-3 registrants will receive a seat for September and will not be part of a lottery process,” district administrators stated.

“It’s an exciting time for Hoboken Early Childhood, as we have been able to expand based on the high demand for our program,” school officials said. “We are adding seven classrooms to our current 59. This brings us to 66 classrooms and a total of 990 total PK seats.”

“All current PK-3 students enrolled in our Early Childhood Program will continue into our PK-4 Program for September. We are projecting 12 open seats for PK-4. We currently have a pending placement list with 15 children that are in need of PK-4 seats for September. We will be placing the first 13 students on that pending placement list in September’s PK-4 program and will move numbers 14 and 15 on that list to numbers 1 and 2. These children will not be part of the lottery process.”
During the scheduled registration period between April 1 and April 5, the district did enroll 38 new registrants for September’s PK-4 program. Those 38 children will participate in a lottery that will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at 6 p.m. at the Brandt School auditorium, administrators said. (Learn more here)
“It is critical that if your plans for September change and your child will no longer continue in our program, please be sure to contact the Office of Early Childhood as soon as possible at eceregistration@hoboken.k12.nj.us,” administrators stated. “This will give us the opportunity to update our records and place any students who may be on a pending placement list.”
In addition, any child that registers for PK-3 or PK-4 after April 5, will not be a part of the lottery process on May 8 and will be added to the end of the pending placement list, in the order in which the registration packet is received, officials said.
