Most Power Restored To Hoboken After Transformer Fire (UPDATE)

Parts of northern Hoboken were without power Monday night during an ice storm that caused outages statewide. A new storm is on the horizon.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Due to a transformer fire in upper Hoboken (caught on video here), portions of the mile-square city were without power on Monday night. After an onlooker posted a dramatic video of a fulminating blaze, the power company responded on social media by telling the person...to report it to the power company.

"Hi Mikey! To report this outage, please text OUT to 4PSEG (47734), report it online, through Amazon's Alexa, through our app or call us 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).To view our outage map visit http://spr.ly/6013H9lKx. Thanks! BB," said the Tweet in response to the video.

Around 9 p.m., some residents posted in a thread on Twitter that their power had come back. However, PSE&G's outage map said there were still approximately 500 users affected.

One user said power was only on in half of their apartment, to which PSE&G replied:

At 9:18 p.m., the city said in an alert: "Power has been restored by PSE&G in the majority of areas in Hoboken affected by the transformer outage. 500 residents still remain without power. PSE&G will continue to work throughout the night on repairs."

Weather this week

Gov. Phil Murphy placed some road restrictions on parts of the Garden State during the storm, which was expected to continue into early Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert until 7 a.m. Tuesday and a hazardous weather outlook through Friday.

Forecasters are predicting a snowfall of 3-6 inches from Thursday afternoon into the early morning hours of Friday.
