HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken will host a citywide Earth Day Gate Sale this Saturday, allowing residents to sell gently used, secondhand items from their gates or stoops.

Residents who do not have access to a stoop or gate can reserve space at Church Square Park on Garden Street between Fourth and Fifth streets to sell their wares.

According to the city, the event is designed to promote reuse, reduce landfill waste, and support sustainability.

Hoboken's Climate Action Plan aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero energy by 2030. According to the city, extending the life of household items and clothing through reuse can help reduce emissions tied to waste disposal and the production and transportation of new goods.

“Earth Day is a reminder that small, local actions can have a big impact,” said Mayor Emily Jabbour. “By reusing items and reducing what we send to landfills, we are cutting greenhouse gas emissions and moving closer to our climate goals."

Shoppers will be able to use an online city map to find participating sale locations across Hoboken.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's being organized by the City of Hoboken and the Hoboken Green Team.

Participants were asked to register online earlier this month at arcg.is/1ii0W43. Residents who want to host a sale at their own stoop or in Church Square Park may do so with a suggested $25 donation, which includes placement on the event map and inclusion in city advertising. Donation checks should be made payable to the City of Hoboken. For more information, contact ksmith@hobokennj.gov.
