HOBOKEN, NJ — The matcha matchup is over, and two women who hoped to open a little donut shop in Hoboken have won.
The pair of entrepreneurs, who have been selling their donuts and matcha drinks in Hoboken parks, applied to the Zoning Board earlier this year for a variance to sell their products in a slim shop on 12th Street. It was formerly an architect's office.
But some neighbors weren't so sure a restaurant on their residential side street was a good idea.
The case went to a final hearing this past Tuesday, and the "Duo Donuts" pair tasted victory. The Zoning Board ruled unanimously in their favor.
This past weekend, the duo wrote a message for supporters in the window.
"A new bomb 'shop' is entering Hoboken," they wrote, encouraging fans to follow them on Instagram for updates.
'Countless Hours'
The owners didn't respond to requests from Patch for comment. But they wrote on Instagram on Saturday, "As many of you know, after countless hours, weeks and months of fighting to start our shop; our vision is finally coming to life!"
They added, "With that being said, Duo Donuts & Matcha is so excited to be a part of the Hoboken community! As we await next steps to officially open, we wanted to spread the amazing news. Stay tuned for updates on opening PS: Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way, can’t wait for you to see our vision for the shop come to life. Yours truly, Nathallie and Ruth."
Watch for Duo Donuts and Matcha at 205 12th St.
