HOBOKEN, NJ — A road was closed and NJ Transit buses detoured Friday night as work crews dealt with a water main break on the west side of Hoboken.

The city posted shortly after 5:30: "Residents should be aware that here is a water main break on Fourth Street between Clinton and Grand streets."

Just before 6 p.m., police asked residents to avoid the area, saying Fourth Street would be closed from Clinton to Grand Street.

NJ Transit said the 126 bus up Clinton Street would operate on a detour, taking Washington Street, 14th Street, and Willow Avenue instead for the time being.

Shortly after the city's post, Veolia Water said crews were responding to the emergency repair.

Company spokesman Chris Halleron said the leak had been isolated, and residents' water won't be affected. But roads will remain closed until repairs are completed.

"Thanks to a quick, effective response by our teams and Hoboken OEM, the leak has been isolated and no customer services are impacted," he said. "One hydrant remains out of service, and Fourth between Clinton and Grand remains closed to traffic until repairs are completed."
