NORTH JERSEY — The owner of a 16-year-old North Jersey pizzeria invited patrons to stop by one last time before they close on June 30.
John Avoletta, the owner of Johnny Pepperoni in Hoboken, said on Thursday that June 30 will be the last day of operation.
Avoletta — who also owns Citi Bistro and the new Viv & Jules in the mile-square city — said the spot will someday reopen, possibly in fall, with a new concept. And he's acquired a liquor license, which the pizzeria never had.
The restaurant was known for unique pizzas like a hot honey pepperoni pie, as well as dishes such as shrimp scampi and Gnocchi al Tartufo.
Avoletta said some of his best memories are serving the community in different ways, such as at charity events and during the pandemic.
"I'm in the service business," he said. "I do it because I love it. Whatever we were able to do to give back to local organizations was great."
"Thanks for a great 16 years," he said to customers. "We're looking forward to serving you for many more years after."
If you want to stop by this month, they're located at 219 11th St.
