Today's riddle: What gets wetter as it dries? 🤔 (Answer below!)
Weather forecast:
1. Flap Your Wings: Hoboken Council Advances Measure to Reduce Bird Collisions (tapinto.net) — Hoboken’s City Council has advanced an ordinance that would require bird‑friendly building materials in most new construction and major renovations citywide, aiming to cut deadly bird collisions along the Atlantic Flyway. The proposal, backed by local advocates, sets detailed glass and design standards—especially near green roofs and reflective surfaces—and will return for a public hearing and final vote at a future meeting.
2. Hoboken Eyes $150K in Annual Revenue Through Advertising Program (tapinto.net) — Hoboken is exploring a new advertising program on city‑owned assets, with officials estimating about $150,000 a year to support transportation and parking, especially the Hop shuttle and ad panels. A council‑approved resolution lets the city seek bids from vendors while members refine broader rules, including possible naming rights and expert guidance to avoid missteps.
3. North Bergen Man Found Guilty in Fatal Hoboken Shooting That Killed 21-Year-Old (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A North Bergen man has been convicted of murder and weapons charges in the 2024 shooting death of 21-year-old Hoboken resident Damon Murray outside a Marshall Drive building. A Hudson County jury returned the guilty verdict on June 16, and while sentencing has not yet been scheduled, the conviction closes a major chapter in a case that shook Hoboken neighbors.
4. Donation sparks mystery: Who gifted a nearly 140-year-old quilt from New Jersey to a Santa Rosa thrift store? (pressdemocrat.com) — A nearly 140-year-old signature quilt, stitched in Hoboken in 1888 and covered with names of local residents, has resurfaced in a California thrift shop and is now being returned to the Hoboken Historical Museum. Volunteers traced its origins through old newspapers and genealogy records, and hope present-day Hoboken families may recognize ancestors when the quilt eventually goes on display.
