HOBOKEN, NJ — The parents of a new baby boy in Hoboken celebrated a "heartwarming family milestone" as young Hudson was delivered on the same date as his grandmother, in the same hospital.
Hudson, the third child for Junior Garcia and Chandell Mendez-Garcia, was born at 10:32 a.m. on June 16, weighing 5 pounds and 4 ounces.
Hudson’s arrival carried a special meaning for his mom, said a spokesperson for Hoboken University Medical Center.
He shares his birthday with his grandmother, Mariana Candelaria, who was also born at the hospital on the same day when it was known as St. Mary Hospital, more than 55 years ago.
Baby Hudson was delivered by Dr. Francine Hyman with assistance from Phyllis Camilleri, the director of maternal child health, and Hoboken University Hospital’s labor and delivery team.
“Knowing that Hudson shares a birthday with his grandmother and was born in the same hospital makes this day incredibly special for our family," said Chandell. "We are grateful to Hoboken University Hospital for being part of such an unforgettable moment. Seeing three generations of the same family celebrate milestones ... is truly special."
"We were honored to play a part in this special day and wish Hudson and the Mendez-Gacia family many happy and healthy years ahead,” said Hyman.
Candelaria was born in Hoboken and raised in Union City, while Chandell and her family currently live in Bayonne.
Baby Hudson’s name pays tribute to the county that has been home to the family for multiple generations, the family said.
“I couldn’t have received a better gift, and a better blessing than to have my grandson born on my birthday and in the same hospital,” said Candelaria. “Grandma is going to be Hudson’s number one cheerleader!”
