HOBOKEN, NJ — Americans have always taken advantage of their First Amendment right to protest, and some have done it through art or music.
Hoboken's Cultural Affairs division, the Hoboken Historical Museum, and other sponsors will host a free night of protest songs on the city's waterfront this Thursday, headlined by local musician Freedy Johnston.
"Songs of Freedom" will run from 7-9 p.m. at Sinatra Park on the central waterfront.
Performers will include Jeremy Beck, David Calamoneri, Jamie Della Fave, Julio Fernandez, The Gefkens, Eddie Skuller, Charlie Nieland, Danny Shot, Ed Fogarty, Mike Tichy, Bill McGarvey, Wendy Joyner, Abbe Rivers, Annalee Van Kleeck, The Jersey City Resistance Choir, Tom Vincent, The ICE Breakers House Band: Ben Butler, Dave Post, Art Desimine, Dave Stengel, and more.
"We want Songs of Freedom to make a real difference in people’s lives," said organizers. "Therefore, we’ve partnered with Estamos Unidos NJ, SOL, and Cosecha NJ to let us know how they are helping people who have a family member detained/deported and how you can help through volunteer actions or financial support. If you'd like, you can bring a ShopRite gift card to the event, and it will be given to a family in need."
The event takes place at the Sinatra Park Amphitheater, an outdoor section of waterfront at 525 Sinatra Drive.
“If there ever was a time to protest the lying bastards in charge and celebrate our freedom, it is now," Johnston told NJ Arts.
