HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A major artery in Hudson County will get a facelift over the next 18 months, but that may mean closures and detours.
Hudson County will begin the improvement project along John F. Kennedy Boulevard this coming Monday.
The roadwork is intended to enhance safety and accessibility for drivers and pedestrians, county officials said.
The work will extend from Sip Avenue to Bergen Avenue, "a busy stretch in the heart of Journal Square," the county noted in its plans.
The project, which will be led by Zuccaro Inc., will include milling and paving. It will also include the installation and improvement of curbs, sidewalks, stamped concrete walkways, ADA-complaint ramps, new traffic signals, and trees.
The work will take place in phases to minimize disruptions and maintain access for the public, the county said.
"JFK Boulevard is an important corridor for residents, businesses, and visitors throughout Hudson County, and these improvements will help make it safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone who uses it," said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy.
He added, "I thank our partners and residents for their patience and cooperation as this important work moves forward."
The improvements are part of the Hudson County Vision Zero initiative, meant to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities. Hoboken's own Vision Zero project has led to nine years without a traffic death.
"Residents and motorists are advised to use caution in active construction areas, follow posted signage, and allow additional travel time as work progresses," the county said.
