Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. New Movie About Maxwell's Rock Club In NJ Moves Forward (patch.com) — Hoboken music fans are getting a closer look at the legacy of Maxwell's, the beloved rock club that once hosted bands like Nirvana, Pixies, and Yo La Tengo. A new documentary, "No Backstage at Maxwell's," is moving ahead with interviews from former owners, booker Todd Abramson, and musicians including Jack Antonoff, spotlighting the venue's outsized role in Hoboken's cultural history.
2. Flash Floods Soak Hoboken During Thunderstorms: See Photos (patch.com) — Heavy evening thunderstorms turned multiple Hoboken streets into flood zones, stranding drivers, shoppers, and commuters as rain fell far faster than local sewers can handle. City officials urged residents not to drive or walk through floodwaters or move barricades, while a flash flood warning and broader flood watch remained in effect and flooding disrupted travel across North Jersey highways.
3. Sherrill among nation's most popular governors as Trump sinks in New Jersey, poll says (newjerseyglobe.com) — Hoboken gets a brief nod in new polling as Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte is noted for having attended Stevens Institute of Technology here before rising to national prominence. The broader survey shows New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill among the country's most popular governors, while Donald Trump remains deeply unpopular statewide and both U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim hold solid approval ratings.
4. Andrew Durham Gallery presents "Enigmatic Objects" opening reception (culturemap.com) — Two artists who have lived and worked in Hoboken since the early 1980s are featured in "Enigmatic Objects," an exhibition exploring the line between painting, sculpture, and furniture through inventive uses of aluminum. Their abstract wall-mounted forms and sculptural cabinets challenge ideas of utility and art, and the show runs through November 7.
