Hoboken Restores Full-Time Lawyer Spot

HOBOKEN, NJ — Diana Jeffrey was appointed corporation counsel for the city of Hoboken last week, re-establishing a structure in which the city has a full-time lawyer.

Jeffrey had left her role running the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency in April, a "mutual" decision under the new administration that gave her a $325,000 payout, according to Hudson County View.

Jeffrey is a municipal attorney with more than two decades of experience, the city said in a statement Monday, and will head the Law Division.

She began work in City Hall on Aug. 17.

At the JCRA, Jeffrey had started as a lawyer before taking the helm of the agency eight years ago.

The city of Hoboken said she worked on projects related to affordable housing, redevelopment, public contracts, employment matters, and government transparency.

Earlier in her career, Jeffrey served as assistant corporation counsel for the city of Jersey City.

"Diana brings an exceptional combination of legal expertise, executive management experience, and a deep understanding of municipal government to the city," said Mayor Emily Jabbour. "Diana has built a career helping local governments navigate complex legal issues, strengthen public institutions, and advance important priorities such as affordable housing, transparency, and responsible governance. Her broad experience handling legal matters in-house positions the city to continue delivering strong legal representation in a fiscally responsible manner."

"I am excited to join the city of Hoboken and grateful to Mayor Jabbour for the opportunity to serve this community," said Jeffrey.

The city also thanked Arlene Quinones-Perez and Hannah Valente of DeCotiis, FitzPatrick, Cole & Giblin LLP for serving as Hoboken's corporation counsel and assistant corporation counsel under the city's outside legal services agreement.

"Arlene and Hannah have served the city with professionalism and integrity, and we are grateful for their many contributions," Jabbour said.
