Hoboken Streets Close, NJ Transit Buses Diverted Due To Water Main Leak

HOBOKEN, NJ — Two blocks of a heavily traveled county road in Hoboken were closed Thursday night to deal with a water main leak, officials said.

The emergency repairs on Willow Avenue, from Seventh to Ninth streets, started around 6 p.m. and will continue until 6 a.m., the city said.

Veolia Water planned to shut off water service to around 25 buildings near Eighth Street and Willow Avenue starting at 8 p.m., the city said.

The water company described the issue an "isolated service line leak" on the 800 block of Willow Ave.

"Please avoid the area and allow extra travel time, to get around the closure," the city said.

As a result of the closure, the NJ Transit 126 Willow Ave buses from New York City to Hoboken Terminal will redirect to Washington Street, the city said.

The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management will provide updates as they are available, the city said.

The repairs and water shut off are expected to end by 6 a.m. Friday, the city said.
