NORTH BERGEN, NJ — A student will be punished after posting a "potentially threatening" message about a Hudson County elementary school on Monday, officials said.
On Monday morning, the North Bergen School District was made aware of the post, which related to Horace Mann School, said a spokesperson for the schools.
After North Bergen police were notified, they increased safety measures at school drop-off and began an investigation, the spokesperson said.
The investigation determined that the post had been made by a student, whose identity is being kept confidential. There was no credible threat, said spokesman Nick Bond.
"The student will receive discipline and counseling according to district policies, and the enhanced security measures will be discontinued at this time," Bond said on Monday night.
In a statement, the district said, "The safety and security of our students is the North Bergen School District's highest priority, and we thank the North Bergen Police Department for its swift action in investigating this situation and ensuring that there was no cause for concern.
"We encourage parents to monitor their children's social media usage and ensure that proper procedures for safe platform use are always followed."
