HOBOKEN, NJ — A Hoboken woman who spent in the weekend in intensive care after being struck by a hit-and-run driver was set to be released from the hospital on Tuesday, said a local official.

Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher said Tuesday, "The driver was traveling north on Hudson, turned left onto 15th without stopping at the intersection, struck our neighbor in the crosswalk, and then fled the scene, leaving her seriously injured in the street.I am incredibly relieved to share that she is being released from the hospital and that she and her dog will be recuperating with family."

Both Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour and 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher said they are looking into the safety improvements for that area of the north waterfront.

Fisher said Tuesday that the residential buildings on that corner have provided camera footage to help identify the driver.

Fisher noted, "We cannot prevent every reckless act by a driver. But we can do everything reasonably within our control to make our streets safer."

Hoboken has gone nine years without a traffic death on city streets.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to contact Det. Sgt. William Collins at CollinsW@hobokenpdnj.gov or call 201-420-2100.
