Bar Trivia Host Fired In Jersey City After Giving Prize To 'Cornell 7' Team Name

The trivia host will be replaced with a NJ burlesque star, the bar's owner told Patch this week.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — After a bar trivia team won a "Best Team Name" prize for a riff on the "Cornell 7" scandal last week, the bar's owners have apologized.

The host of the weekly Wednesday night trivia at the Pint gay bar in Jersey City was fired as a result of the incident, the owners confirmed.

It all went down on Wednesday during the weekly team trivia competition at Pint — a century-old gay bar.

A team named themselves "Cornell 7 Inches." The name referred to the rape allegations against a group of men at Cornell University in Ithaca.

The competition's host awarded "Best Team Name" to the team.

But a commenter on Reddit found the matter offensive. He wrote that the LGBT bar is "not a safe space for women."

"I cannot believe someone would make light of something like this," the person wrote.

The bar's owners posted a video on Thursday apologizing for the incident and saying the weekly trivia host had been fired.

"Our goal, and the goal we've had for 17 years running this bar, is to make it a safe welcoming space for everyone," said co-owner Wolf Sterling.

The pair said they would take the money they earned on Wednesday night and donate it to sexual violence prevention.

Sterling told Patch on Saturday, "The trivia host was fired within an hour of us finding out this happened."

He said that the weekly event will continue, but with a new host. Jersey City burlesque legend Lillian Bustle will host on Wednesday, he said.

The person who started the Reddit thread said they appreciated the apology.

"I did not mean for this thread as a way to attack Pint any of these queer spaces," the person wrote. "I simply wish the trivia host called out this behavior ... Please don't use this post as a way to attack any marginalized community, because there are bad eggs everywhere but they're not representative of the whole."
