'Electric Dandelions' Display Will Light Hoboken Waterfront And Monroe Center Through May
An international art exhibit that began at Burning Man in 2016 is coming to Hoboken starting Friday.
HOBOKEN, NJ — A group of 28-feet tall "Electric Dandelions" will light up the Hoboken waterfront starting this Friday, and will continue to illuminate two locations in the mile-square city for several months.
On Friday, Feb.23, the Hoboken Business Alliance (HBA), which serves Hoboken’s business community, will unveil the installation of the steel structures, which are lit by LEDs.
They'll be located both at Pier A and Monroe Center Plaza.

They will be lit starting Friday night, until 10 p.m., and then will be lit each day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Crafted by the renowned artist Abram Santa Cruz and Liquid PXL, a Los Angeles-based art collective, ten of the sculptures will be poised along the waterfront and at 720 Monroe St. through May 24.

They were first brought to life at Burning Man in 2016, and have also been featured at Illuminate Adelaide in Australia, Firefly Music Festival in Delaware, and the River of Light winter festival in Liverpool.
According to a release, "By day, they offer a stunning representation of dandelions in full bloom against the backdrop of the Hoboken skyline. As night falls, they transform into a mesmerizing spectacle, captivating the senses with their dynamic and enchanting display of light and motion. This unique, captivating artwork activates the Hoboken waterfront and Sinatra Drive, as well as the area around Hoboken’s key Ninth Street/Congress Street Light Rail Station, providing a pleasant environment to enjoy the outdoors as the weather transitions to spring."
The first lighting on Friday will be around 5:45 to 6 p.m. at sundown.
