Commuters in the rapidly developing peninsula city won't have to take the light rail or bus to Hoboken or Jersey City to catch the ferry.

BAYONNE, NJ — As the peninsula city of Bayonne has added four light rail stops in the last 20 years, its waterfront has been rapidly developing with condo complexes and apartments. Last week, the Bayonne City Council voted for a 10-year lease with the Monmouth County ferry company Seastreak to provide direct ferry service from Bayonne across the river to Manhattan, according to a story Tuesday on JerseyDigs. Right now, Bayonne commuters take the light rail train or bus to Jersey City or Hoboken and head into Manhattan inexpensively via ferry or PATH train. But the new line would eliminate the extra step.
