UPDATED: Car Fire In Lincoln Tunnel Extinguished

Update: The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey sent an alert around 8:30 a.m. that the fire was cleared, but residual delays may remain.

A car fire closed the entire Lincoln Tunnel Monday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The fire occurred at the Lincoln Tunnel westbound on the New York side in the north tube in Manhattan, forcing the closing of all lanes, according to the DOT.

NJ Transit said it was cross-honoring tickets, with buses delayed by at least 45 minutes in and out of the city.

The traffic came as NJ Transit announced unrelated delays for its Penn Station-bound lines due to a disabled train on Monday morning.

Helicopters hovered over both ends of the Lincoln Tunnel while the fire occurred, according to News12.
