City Council Postpones Vote On Hoboken Yards Redevelopment Plan
The redevelopment plan will create a mixed-use project in an attempt to revitalize the Hoboken Terminal area and mitigate flooding.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken City Council postponed a vote on an amendment to the Hoboken Yards Redevelopment Plan during their Wednesday meeting.
The redevelopment plan – approved by the council in 2014 after a lengthy process involving community feedback – will create a mixed-use project in an attempt to revitalize the Hoboken Terminal area and mitigate flooding. (Learn more about the plan)
However, in the five years since its approval, the project has changed dramatically, according to Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, who joined six of her peers to table a vote on the amendment.

The move will allow the public to weigh in on the proposed changes, Fisher stated.
“Most of my council colleagues have met with LCOR, the developer of the site, and I personally believe they tried to address issues raised during the prior public process,” Fisher stated after the meeting. “But the public has not been afforded the same opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns which I believe is necessary for a project of this importance to our community.”

According to Fisher:
“On the face of it, the overall project has been reduced in scale by about 1 million square feet and brings many positives including a historically sensitive and restored Warrington Plaza and Terminal. However, the plan still contemplates the possibility of future development of the ‘lost’ area and there are also many parts that amplify prior concerns about height (increasing the primary commercial building by 100 feet), residential massing closer to the PATH and related traffic concerns, as well as sight lines.”
