City to Salt Icy Hoboken Streets This Afternoon

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Hoboken today. The City will be brining streets this afternoon to combat icy conditions.

The City of Hoboken will be spreading brine on streets this afternoon in anticipation of more icy weather hitting the Mile Square today.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, stating that a mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain could cause dangerous conditions throughout the state.

Hoboken could also see up to an inch of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice, the City reports.

“Hazardous travel is expected due to icy roadways so please plan extra time to commute,” a representative from the City said.

The salt brine being spread today may cause streets to appear white. Pre-treating roads prevents snow and ice from bonding with the pavement. All parking regulations, including street cleaning are in effect today.

Commuters should note that a systemwide cross honoring of NJ TRANSIT rail, light rail and bus passes/tickets is in effect for today, due to the expected winter weather conditions.
