HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The closing of Jersey City's Five Corners Library in August came as a shock, with the staff saying on social media that the building needed extensive repairs.
Fans mourned the spot, in a central location.
But over the weekend, officials announced the library would open Tuesday.

The announcement came on the heels of a temporary closure of Hoboken's main library, also centrally located. That library's first floor will remain closed until next year, but the second and third floors reopened last week.

Jersey City library officials said, "The reopening follows temporary repair work and interventions to address the building’s HVAC system, which led to the branch’s temporary closure earlier this year. Work completed at the branch has restored cooling and prepared the heating system for the cooler months ahead, allowing the building to reopen, and library services and programming to safely resume while longer-term facility needs are evaluated."
The library is located at 678 Newark Ave.
Mayor James Solomon said, “I want to thank those whose creativity and determination delivered a solution: Deputy Mayor Dia Bryant, Bernard Herk of JC DPW, and Orlando Quarless of JCFPL. I am grateful to Councilman Zuppa, the library board, leadership, and staff for making sure residents continued to have access to services while Five Corners was closed. Reopening the doors here is an important step, and now we are focused on making sure this branch can serve the community reliably for years to come.”
Hoboken Library Events
The Hoboken Library's second and third floors reopened on Oct. 5, followed by a number of unique events, such as a Banned Books reading and a Pokemon Go! meetup on Pier A. The library has a new weekly teen book club, social work resources, and much more coming up, so check out the calendar here.
The library said, "When you visit, please enter through the Park Avenue side entrance or the elevator entrance and follow the signage inside. The main entrance remains temporarily closed as renovation work continues on the first floor and mezzanine, and we appreciate your patience as we work toward completing this transformation."
