HOBOKEN, NJ — The downtown Hoboken location of New York Sports Club, four blocks from the train station, announced its closing this week in a letter to members (see letter below).

However, the uptown location at 14th Street ("Hoboken North") remains open, a representative at that location confirmed.

After long closures during the coronavirus crisis, gyms were only permitted to reopen — with restrictions (such as 25 percent capacity) — starting Sept. 1. READ MORE: Gov. Murphy: Gyms, Indoor Amusements Reopen Amid Coronavirus

NYSC had announced it had filed to undergo Chapter 11 restructuring in September.

The NYSC announcement came the same week that the New York State attorney general's office announced its lawsuit against the parents companies of that chain and Lucille Roberts for allegedly "charging illegal dues and prohibiting consumers from cancelling memberships" during the crisis, according to the office's Sept. 30 release.

One NYSC Hoboken downtown member, Nancy Colasurdo, was disappointed at news of the closing.

"After 22 years ... I was stunned to receive an email saying it was closing effective immediately," she said. "Another unfortunate casualty of the pandemic. I'm exploring my options, but also wondering if I want to join a gym right now."

Members of the downtown Hoboken location received this letter:
