Drinking Alcohol Is Legal On NJ Transit Trains

Did you know that it’s legal to drink alcohol on NJ Transit passenger trains?

While certain events have seen temporary booze bans in the past – such as New Year’s Eve and St. Patrick’s Day – it’s legal to drink alcoholic beverages aboard NJ Transit trains, according to NJ Transit Police Chief Christopher Trucillo.

Consumption of alcohol is permitted on NJ Transit trains, but that can and has been rescinded as conditions warrant,” a NJ Transit spokesman told the Asbury Park Press.

“The reluctance to enact a blanket ban on trains is a nod to commuters who have the option to buy beer in major terminals such as Penn Station, to drink on the ride home,” the APP reported.

However, all drinks – including alcohol – are banned from NJ Transit buses.
