Driver In Hoboken Crash Charged With DWI; Pedestrian Hospitalized

Hoboken police arrested a Jersey City man who allegedly left the scene of a crash, then hit a pedestrian, authorities said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Police charged a Jersey City man with assault by auto and DWI after he allegedly left the scene of a crash and hit a pedestrian with his car on Tuesday, authorities said.

According to a Wednesday statement from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Hoboken police officers responded to a crash in the area of 1st and Bloomfield Street around 3 p.m.

The officers determined that a black Honda Accord fled the scene of the crash and then struck a pedestrian in the area of 1st and Hudson streets. The driver of the Honda then hit “multiple” parked vehicles before crashing into a building at 99 Hudson Street and coming to a stop, prosecutors said.

Emergency responders transported the pedestrian – a 56-year-old male from Brooklyn – to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries to his lower extremities. He is in stable condition, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Police arrested the driver of the Honda - Oscar Moran, 66, of Jersey City – and charged him with driving while intoxicated, second-degree assault by auto and third-degree assault by auto.

The driver of the other car involved in the crash was treated for minor injuries at the scene, prosecutors said.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the incident with assistance from the Hoboken Police Department. The crash caused traffic delays and road closures on parts of Hudson and 1st streets on Tuesday, authorities previously said.
