Election Day Is Tuesday In 8th District Primaries: Menendez, Bhalla, Jasey, Or Valdes?
Who's running for the nomination, who's opposed, and when will Mayor Ravi Bhalla step down as mayor if he wins a Congress seat?

NORTH JERSEY, NJ — After a short but heated race, voters in the 8th Congressional District can head to the polls Tuesday to pick a nominee for the Democratic or Republican nomination to Congress.
The winner in each party primary on Tuesday will face off in November in the general election.
Registered Democrats an choose on Tuesday from among incumbent Rob Menendez Jr., Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, and Jersey City resident Kyle Jasey.

On Saturday night, Rep. Andy Kim, who's running for Senate, clarified in a Tweet that he hadn't endorsed candidate in the congressional primaries.
Menendez Jr., besides serving in Congress, is an attorney. Mayor Bhalla is also an attorney. Jasey is an entrepreneur and owner of a real estate financing business.

Timeline
The General Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024. Patch will begin posting results at 8 p.m.
Some Hoboken residents have asked at what point Mayor Ravi Bhalla would step down as mayor if he wins the nomination Tuesday or the election in November. Spokesman Rob Horowitz says that should he win, he intends to serve as mayor until he would be inaugurated as congressman, which would be next January.
Who Can Vote
Unaffiliated voters are eligible to vote in person on Tuesday in either the Democratic or Republican Primary Election, by declaring their party at the polls. Registered Democrats and Republicans are only permitted to vote in their party’s respective Primary Election.
On Tuesday, June 4, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District includes most of Hudson County (including Hoboken and Jersey City), as well as Elizabeth in Union County, and Newark's north and east wards.
