Essex County Man Arrested With Fireworks In Holland Tunnel

The motorist planned to use the fireworks at a party, police say.

Port Authority police arrested an Essex County man who allegedly attempted to bring a “large amount of fireworks” through the Holland Tunnel into New York on Thursday.

According to police, the incident took place around 10:30 a.m., as the 30-year-old Newark resident was driving his 2006 Chevrolet sedan inside the Holland Tunnel Toll Plaza on the New Jersey side.

After conducting a traffic stop because of the car’s tinted windows, an officer noticed a “large amount of fireworks spread across the vehicle’s back seat” when the man rolled down his window to speak.
