77-Year-Old NJ Woman Killed In Tragic Car, Bicycle Accident: Cops

The cause of death was blunt force injuries to the head, according to authorities.

A 77-year-old woman was killed this weekend while she was riding a bicycle in North Jersey, according to authorities. Police are looking for information as to how it happened.

The incident happened at approximately 7 a.m. on Saturday when the Bayonne Police Department
responded to an incident at the intersection of Avenue C and 27th Street, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Upon arrival, officers found Marianna Chojnowska, 77, of Bayonne, on the ground with apparent injuries. She was treated at the scene by the officers and emergency personnel, according to the HCPO.

Chojnowska was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:20 a.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be blunt force injuries to the head.

The initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Investigative Unit and the Bayonne Police Department determined that Chojnowska was riding a bicycle on Avenue C when she was struck by a Honda Accord driven by a 22-year-old woman, who remained at the scene, according to the HCPO.

The Honda was travelling on 27th Street. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.

The Hudson County Regional Fatal Collision Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Bayonne Police Department.
