Damaged By Fire, Greek Restaurant In Bergen County Posts Message For Customers

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ — Prosecutors are investigating a fire that heavily damaged a Greek restaurant in Bergen County on Thursday morning.

The fire in Englewood Cliffs closed all lanes of Route 9W in that area just before 7 a.m. on Thursday.

First responders headed to the Greek restaurant Lefkes on Sylvan Avenue around 4:40 a.m. to respond to a basement fire, reports said.

Lefkes later posted on social media, "Our home was damaged, but our spirit is too strong. We're working hard to rebuild and will be back serving you soon."

"As of 6:50 a.m., there's a building fire on U.S. 9W in both directions Palisades Avenue in Englewood Cliffs," the state reported on the 511NJ website on Thursday morning. "All lanes closed."

Jeff Angermeyer of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said the Major Crimes Unit and the Englewood Cliffs Police Department are investigating the fire, but that no further details were available on Thursday.

Englewood Fire Company No. 1 posted Thursday, "Engine 1, EW-9 and EW-8 on location at a third alarm fire in Englewood Cliffs."
