Fireworks Launched Over Hudson River In Hoboken Saturday Night

HOBOKEN, NJ — Those who dislike loud noises may want to be aware that fireworks are scheduled for the Hoboken waterfront this Saturday night, Sept. 10, 2022 as part of the Hoboken Italian Festival.

In recent years, Twitter users on both side of the Hudson River have gotten annoyed when they didn't expect the loud noises.

The 2022 Feast of the Madonna dei Martiri started Thursday and runs through this Sunday evening.

The Ciao USA Fireworks Extravaganza is scheduled for 9 p.m. Saturday at Pier A, the pier that juts into the Hudson River at the foot of the Hoboken waterfront, across from the train station.

The 2022 events will take place at Sinatra Drive Promenade from Newark Street north to Second Street, an easy walk from the Hoboken Train Terminal. (Map here.)

The 2022 festival will include a variety of food, live music, games, displays, and traditions.

A Few Other Highlights:

  • The opening ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8.
  • There's live music each night, and a full lineup of music all day from 12:15 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. The schedule of entertainment Saturday is here.
  • The fireworks will take place at 9 p.m. that Saturday.
  • Sunday, Sept. 11, will include an annual grape stomp contest at 5 p.m.

For the music, acts range from classic rock band Krystal on Thursday to the Swingtime Big Band on Sunday.

History

As the website notes, "The tradition of the Madonna Dei Martiri goes back to 1399. Ladislao di Durazzo, King of Napoli, ordered the Street festival & Religious celebration be combined to celebrate the 'Miracle' and blessings of the Madonna."
